Description

An Irregular Expedition is a game for students in grades 1-3 that focuses on analyzing words with peculiarities or spelling irregularities. Players are messengers who must deliver an important message to the king by analyzing the spelling peculiarities of words.

Designed for 2 to 4 players, the game includes 1 game board and 90 question cards divided into 2 categories:

With the question cards in the first category, players must analyze the spelling of words.
With the question cards of the second category, players must write words with spelling peculiarities.
At the beginning of the game, players answer questions from the first category, then answer questions from the second category, which aim to consolidate knowledge about word spelling. Several words targeted in this game are found in both categories of question cards to encourage memorization of their spelling. In addition, most of the words are taken from the MELS spelling list. A variation also allows for a single-player game in the context of individual intervention.

Note: The homophones targeted in this game are lexical homophones, that is, words of the same class that are pronounced the same, but spelled differently (e.g., cour and cours). The game does not target syntactic homophones (e.g., a and à) that can be distinguished by identifying their class (a is a verb, à is a preposition).
