Description
The longer a lion's mane, the more intimidating it is to intruders entering the territory it defends. Lions are also the only ones to hunt together in packs—although this task is most often the responsibility of lionesses. Since they aren't very fast compared to cheetahs, they join forces by hunting in groups. They lie in wait and approach quietly from several directions, surrounding their prey and taking advantage of a moment of surprise. This allows them to take down large ungulates such as zebras and wildebeest, and even weakened buffalo and elephants.
