ME (changing my grocery bags, as my palms were starting to hurt): Dad... When are you going back to the dealership to pick out another car?
MY FATHER (staring at the end of the street and remaining silent): …
ME (without letting go): It would be nice if you went today. Or tomorrow. Is it open tomorrow? Because we're not going to do this every weekend, are we?
MY FATHER (still silent): …
ME (rolling my shoulders, given the weight of the bags): Dad! I'm talking to you!
MY FATHER (finally reacting):
Yes, I hear you! But I don't... I don't plan on going back. Not for now, anyway.
ME (frowning): Not right now... Like "not this week" or rather... "not at all"?
MY FATHER (finally deigning to glance at me): The second option, Dylane...
I was so shocked that I dropped the bags on the ground. I then bent down to grab the packet of biscuits, before running towards the house (which was very close). I know, it wasn't very nice... Especially since Dad (who was really heavily laden) had to go carry his bags, only to come back and get mine from the sidewalk.
