Description
Baby elephants are still very clumsy after birth and must learn to use their trunks. They don't yet know how to use them for feeding and are nursed by their mother for a year. They then gain a good kilo per day. It is very important that they grow quickly because a healthy adult no longer fears lions or crocodiles. But if a dangerous predator gets too close, the adults form a protective circle around the young. The baby elephants are thus well protected in the middle.
