Description
Dilophosaurus was one of the fastest prehistoric saurians, after Compsognathus and Velociraptor. Despite a six-meter-long body, it weighed only 500 kg and had powerful hind legs that easily allowed it to reach speeds of up to 38 km/h. It had two conspicuous bony crests on its skull, earning it the nickname "the two-crested saurian." They were large and long, but too thin to be used as a defense. Scientists believe they were used to impress rivals.
