For young Akane, her father Toru is endowed with incredible power: sitting alone on stage, he is able to bring to life a multitude of different characters, armed only with a fan and a square of cloth! Toru practices rakugo, a form of popular comedy show born hundreds of years ago, but still very much alive. Despite the mockery of those around him, he dreams of reaching the rank of master. The pressure is even greater because he does not want to disappoint his wife, his lifelong support, nor especially his daughter Akane... She admires him to the point of imitating him, rehearsing rakugo scenes in secret!. On the day of the exam to the ultimate grade, the bar is set high: it is none other than the famous lssho Arakawa, undisputed master of the discipline, who plays the role of juror. Toru gives a remarkable performance, the room is writhing with laughter! And yet, lssho declares him unworthy of the title... Worse, he bans him for life from the world of rakugo, as well as all the other candidates, without any explanation! Toru's career as an artist is shattered, without anyone understanding the reason... but Akane takes up the torch, determined to realize her dream and discover the truth behind this scandal
